Chelsea are yet to make a formal contract offer to Eden Hazard amid reports from Belgium that the Stamford Bridge star has rejected a new deal.

Hazard’s father, Thierry, is reported to have told the Belgian publication Le Soir that the 26-year-old has rejected a contract offer from the Blues, but Standard Sport understands that, at this stage, no formal offer has been made.

The Belgium international is a long-term target of Real Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane.

Quotes attributed to Hazard Snr said that Hazard had “rejected a contract offer but that there had been “no contact with Real.”

As previously reported by Standard Sport, Chelsea opened preliminary discussions with Hazard in May and are prepared to offer Hazard a deal worth £300,000-a-week to secure his long-term future, a pay rise of approximately £100,000-a-week.

However, the 26-year-old fractured his ankle in June, delaying any possibility of an agreement last summer, with the club and player prioritising his recovery.

Chelsea will generally only commence formal negotiations with players who are in the final 24-months of their contracts. As such, an formal offer to Hazard is not expected before the end of the season.

Hazard’s current contract expires in 2020, and is himself believe to be in no immediate rush to sign fresh terms.
