Charlton Athletic are set to re-open contract talks with Lee Bowyer over a new contract.

It is understood the club have contacted Bowyer, who is on holiday, and his representatives are due to meet club officials.

Bowyer has entered the final month of his contract with his future unresolved despite leading Charlton back into the Championship with a dramatic play-off win over Sunderland at Wembley.

It is understood he was close to agreeing a deal in principle if Charlton stayed in League One, but promotion means circumstances have changed.

Bowyer succeeded despite the awkward position at The Valley and several clubs have been impressed by the work he did last season.

He has said he wants to stay at the club where he started his playing career in 1994.
