Carlton Cole's Stoke move in balance

11 April 2012

Carlton Cole's proposed £6million move to Stoke was in the balance today after talks stalled on personal terms.

It is understood that West Ham have accepted Stoke's offer, worth £4m plus another £2m based on appearances, but Cole has still not agreed to the deal.

West Ham, who open their pre-season campaign against Swiss League champions BSC Young Boys in Switzerland tonight, are willing to let Cole go in order to release transfer funds for new manager Sam Allardyce.

12 players have left the club in the wake of relegation and Allardyce has revealed that he wants to sign eight replacements before the start of the Championship season.

One player on West Ham's radar is former Chelsea and Barcelona striker Eidur Gudjohnsen.
