Arsene Wenger delivered on his promise to shake Jose Mourinho's hand ahead of kick-off as Manchester United met Arsenal at Old Trafford on Sunday.

The pair have shared a stormy relationship in the past, with Mourinho branding Wenger a 'specialist in failure' during his second Chelsea stint, while their rivalry played out in the public eye during Arsenal's trip to Stamford Bridge in October 2014.

The two clashed on the touchline during Chelsea's 2-0 Premier League victory after Wenger took exception to a challenge by Gary Cahill.

But there were no signs of past differences as the duo met for the first time since Mourinho returned to English football with Manchester United during the summer.

"Of course, I respect the ritual that is so important in the Premier League," Wenger said ahead of the game when asked if he would shake hands with the United manager.

Wenger has never beaten a Mourinho side in a Premier League game, drawing six and losing five in the top flight, but led Arsenal to victory over Chelsea in the 2015 Community shield to clinch some bragging rights.
