Julian Draxler will not be leaving Wolfsburg this summer, the club's sporting director Klaus Allofs has confirmed.

Arsenal have been consistently linked with a move for the 22-year-old in recent seasons and failed with a £25m bid for the then Schalke midfielder in January 2014.

Draxler instead joined Wolfsburg last summer and has four years to run on his current deal, but reports linking the Gunners with a swoop for the Germany international have persisted as Wenger combs the market for attacking reinforcements.

The Arsenal boss has earmarked Napoli striker Gonzalo Higuain after being largely frustrated in his search for a new striker.

The Gunners are weighing up whether to launch a bid for the Argentina international following their failed move for Leicester striker Jamie Vardy.

Alexandre Lacazette and Alvaro Morata also feature on Wenger's hitlist, but attack-minded Draxler will not make the switch to Emirates Stadium this summer.

"With Julian Draxler it will be 100 per cent like this," Allofs told German website Sport1.

"He will stay. There is no discussion."

It is understood Arsenal are keen for any addition to work in rotation with Olivier Giroud rather than as a direct replacement.
