Arsenal transfer news: It would be exciting to join Granit Xhaka in London, says Ricardo Rodriguez

Wolfsburg left-back Ricardo Rodriguez has claimed he would be excited to unite with international team-mate Granit Xhaka at club level amid reports he could be bound for Arsenal.

The German press has claimed that Arsenal are among the clubs considering activating a buyout clause in Rodriguez's contract reported to be worth £19million.

Arsenal have already brought in one Swiss international this summer, Granit Xhaka at £34m, and Rodriguez suggested he might be keen to join up with his compatriot this summer.

When asked by Tagesanzeiger whether he would like to join up with Xhaka, who he shares a room with in the Swiss national team, Rodriguez said: "That would be exciting, yes, especially because the room arrangement at Arsenal would be fixed as well."

Arsenal sign Granit Xhaka

Rodriguez added that remaining at Wolfsburg this summer would be "not impossible but unrealistic", with the German side having missed out on European football following an eighth placed finish in the Bundesliga.

Any deal for Rodriguez would likely require Nacho Monreal's current understudy Kieran Gibbs to decide to leave Arsenal. Standard Sport reported in April that that remains unlikely, with the England international minded to fight for his place unless he is told he can depart.
