Arsenal have dislodged Chelsea as London's most valuable Premier League football club, according to Forbes' list of the World’s Most Valuable Sports Teams for 2016.

Arsene Wenger's side, who finished last season trophyless, are worth a huge £1.53 billion, which was enough to secure 23rd spot on the illustrious list.

American businessman Stan Kroenke is a majority shareholder in the north London club and has overseen Arsenal's rise of 13 places on the list in just one year to move ahead of their capital rivals.

Such a climb makes the Gunners the 'biggest movers' among the top 50 teams on the list, which is dominated by 27 NFL franchises.

Chelsea were ranked as high as 31st last year but have dropped to 36th place and are valued at £1.26bn, having endured a disappointing defence to their Premier League crown last season.

The Blues, like Arsenal, failed to win a major piece of domestic silverware last term and, crucially, will not compete in this year's edition of the Champions League, which is a major source of income.

Manchester United (£2.51bn) remain the Premier League's most valuable side and lie in fifth place, the same position they occupied last year, while Real Madrid (£2.75bn) and Barcelona (£2.6bn) are ranked second and third overall respectively.

Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich feature in 12th place courtesy of a value of £2.02bn while Manchester City (£1.45bn) climb one place to 28th.

Liverpool (£1.17bn) did not feature on last year's list but now represent the eighth football team to be included and occupy 41st place.

Arsenal's rise was boosted by the fact they became the first club to earn £100m in Premier League television payments after their matches were broadcast live in the UK on 27 occasions last season.
