Arsenal injury crisis grows with Takehiro Tomiyasu still two weeks from return to training

Arsenal’s injury woes have increased after it was confirmed Takehiro Tomiyasu will be out for another two weeks.

The defender has not played since January after injuring his right calf and he is still not in full training.

Tomiyasu recovered from the original injury, but in February injured his left calf and it is the latter problem that is currently troubling him.

It had been hoped he could return for Arsenal after the most recent international break, but he is now not due back in full training for another fortnight.

Arsenal travel to Southampton on April 16 and the club hope that the right-back will be back in full training after that game. It means he will also miss this Saturday’s meeting with Brighton.

Tomiyasu would be back in full training the week beginning April 18, when Arsenal face Chelsea and Manchester United in what are likely to be two crucial matches in their pursuit of Champions League qualification.

However, given the Japanese international has not played since January, there would be huge question marks about his match sharpness.

In Tomiyasu’s absence, Cedric Soares has been filling in at right-back. Arsenal have issues at left-back too, though, as Kieran Tierney is expected to miss the rest of the season.
