Arsenal suffered an injury blow in tonight's Champions League clash against Bayern Munich after Laurent Koscielny was forced off through injury.

The Frenchman was involved in a heavy challenge with Robert Lewandowski and pulled up with what appeared to be a muscle problem near his hamstring.

Koscielny attempted to battle on briefly but Arsene Wenger swiftly took the decision to substititue the central defender.

Gabriel Paulista was brought on in Koscielny's place with the scores locked at 1-1 in the Allianz Arena, and Koscielny's absence departure proved costly as Bayern soon went 3-1 up through Robert Lewandowski and Thiago alcantara.

Arjen Robben fired the hosts into an early lead, courtesy of a glorious left-footed strike but Alexis Sanchez responded with a crucial away goal by following up his own penalty after Manuel Neuer had saved.

Lewandowski then made the Gunners pay for the reshuffle by beating Shkodran Mustafi in the air to put the Bundesliga side in front.

Meanwhile, Arsenal goalkeeper David Ospina also appeared to be set to be substituted after injuring his shoulder, prompting Petr Cech to warm up on the sidelines.

But the Colombia international was deemed well enough to continue.
