Arsenal midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is awaiting confirmation over how long he will be out of contention after injuring himself against Barcelona on Tuesday.

The 22-year-old is set for a scan today that will confirm the scale of the injury he picked up on his right knee when he collided with Javier Mascherano in the first half of Arsenal's 2-0 Champions League defeat.

Oxlade-Chamberlain continued until early into the second period but was in evident discomfort, limping through until the 50th minute, when he made way for Theo Walcott.

Having only recently overtaken Joel Campbell and Walcott in the battle for a starting berth, and with Euro 2016 fast approaching, a further injury absence for Oxlade-Chamberlain, who was out for a month earlier this season with a thigh muscle rupture, would be a dispiriting blow.

Though Arsene Wenger could not confirm how long the winger would be out of the side he is certain to miss Sunday's trip to Manchester United.

"He has a scan today, he will not be available for Sunday," Wenger said.

Wilshere has not played a single moment of competitive football this season after injuring his ankle days ahead of the Community Shield in August. However he is

"It’s hard work, when you see the other boys going out and enjoying training it’s tough," the midfielder told BT Sport last week. "I want to go to the Euros, help the lads win the Premier League."

"There’s no fear [on returning to the first team]. All my injuries have been impact injuries, this one in training too.

"You can’t think about getting injured again. It’s important you set yourself targets on the comeback trail, that way you can see yourself getting closer."
