The Arsenal Supporters Trust (AST) are to write to the club reminding them of their commitment to freeze all general admission pricing after their decision to raise the price of top-tier seats at the Emirates.

Arsenal wrote to Platinum members earlier this morning announcing a three per cent price increase in their membership, prices for which had been kept flat for two seasons.

In March Arsenal announced a two season price freeze running until at least the 2018/19 season, meaning nine of 13 years at the Emirates will see prices remain static.

The AST will remind the club of that commitment after they upped the cost for corporate and premium seats.

“We will be contacting the club to remind them of their commitment to freezing ticket prices and asking for their reassurance that this policy still remains in place,” an AST spokesperson told Standard Sport.

Platinum members were told that Arsenal’s decision to increase prices was based on a commitment to “continous reinvestment” in facilities in corporate areas.

An Arsenal spokesperson told Standard Sport: "Having held Club Level seat prices flat for the past two seasons, it has been decided there will be a 3% increase in the cost of Platinum Membership for Season 2017/2018.

"In reaching this decision we have taken into account rising costs and the need for continuous reinvestment and upgrades in this premium area of Emirates Stadium.

"We have already announced General Admission prices are frozen for next season. This was done on March 3, 2016, explaining the GA season ticket and matchday prices will be held until at least 2018-19. This means GA prices will have been held flat for nine of the past 12 seasons."

Currently prices for Platinum membership start at £2,425 + VAT, for which members are afforded tickets to every competitive first team game, access to the ballot for FA Cup semi-final and final matches and complimentary half-time drinks.

The AST urged Arsenal to introduce their 2019 price freeze and introduce concessions for young supporters aged between 18 and 21 in February last year, noting that the £8billion Premier League clubs will earn in broadcast revenue meant the only reason for a price rise in that period would be “greed”.

Arsenal responded by implementing the check on general ticket prices a month later but the AST were “disappointed that Arsenal didn’t feel able to freeze all ticket prices at the Emirates at a time of such growth in media revenues”.
