Petr Cech is convinced Arsenal are better equipped to win the Premier League title this season due to the strength in depth at Arsene Wenger's disposal.

Arsenal have won seven of their opening 11 games this term and occupy third place in the table after being held to a 1-1 draw by rivals Tottenham at the weekend.

Liverpool and Manchester City have been installed as the favourites to lift the trophy but a 10-game unbeaten run has brought renewed hope that the Gunners can finally end a 12-year wait for the title.

Wenger signed just one outfield player last summer but supplemented his squad with three new senior faces before the start of the current campaign and Cech believes additional options will aid the club's push for top spot.

“I think the first [quality we have] is the strength in depth," Cech told Arsenal's official website.

"When we were unlucky with long-term injuries last season, we had to use the same players in so many games and you lack energy in certain parts of the season.

“We dropped points because we couldn’t rotate. This season we have strength in depth.

“I think we are as strong as anybody else in the league. The league is very competitive but I think we are one of the teams who has all the qualities to compete for the title and we know that.”

Arsenal have mounted several challenges for the title since their 'Invincibles' campaign in 2003/04 only to repeatedly fail to last the course.

And Cech, who has won four winners' medals from his distinguished spell at Chelsea, is adamant Arsenal's problems stemmed from the failure to hold on to their best players.

"The major difference is that four or five years ago the club was forced to sell their best players and tried to build the team around young players.

"Now the team is built the way the manager wants. In the last three years we bought [Alexis] Sanchez, Mesut [Ozil] and Granit [Xhaka].

"Together with all the experience of the players who had been here for a long time we have great balance in the team.

"We have young players coming through as well and we can take this as a great advantage as the squad is very well balanced. It's working so far," added the 34-year-old.

Arsenal face Manchester United following the conclusion of the international break but Sanchez appears to be an early doubt for the trip to Old Trafford, having suffered a muscle injury while on international duty with Chile.
