Antonio Valencia has revealed the Manchester United players still believe they can compete with Chelsea for the Premier League title this season.

United, now managed by former Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho, currently sit in sixth place in the league standings - 15 points off Antonio Conte's leaders.

Despite being off the pace in the top-flight title race, United remain on course to secure the treble following their EFL Cup victory over Southampton on Sunday.

The Red Devils play FC Rostov in the Europa League round of 16 this month and take on Chelsea in their FA Cup quarter-final tie at Stamford Bridge.

And Valencia has admitted winning the League Cup trophy at Wembley has injected the United squad with the confidence they need to attempt to challenge for the Premier League title this season.

"This is the mentality that we have - this trophy has given us much confidence," Valencia, 31, said.

"We are thinking about these three trophies. I think we can do it. We have to realise we are Manchester United and that we can go on to win these three trophies.

"We haven't given up hope (in the Premier League) this year.

"We'll still fight for the league this season, but if we can't do it this year, then we go into next season and we will fight for the league."
