Chelsea manager Antonio Conte has urged his players to learn how to "kill" games after edging past Bristol Rovers in the EFL Cup courtesy of a 3-2 scoreline.

The Blues named a strong side against the League One outfit and booked their place in round three courtesy of Michy Batshuayi's brace and an effort from Victor Moses.

But the hosts were given a scare when Rovers threatened to get back into the game with two goals of their own during the second half, which led to a nervous finale at Stamford Bridge.

Conte has now won all three of his opening games in charge at Chelsea but is adamant his team need to be more ruthless once they have got their noses in front.

"These games are very tough," Conte told BBC Radio London Sport.

"When you dominate the game, you must kill the game. In this case, we didn't do this.

"It's important to understand that we must stay concentrated, always. And when you have the opportunity to kill the game, you must kill it, not keep it open."

Conte's teams have often been built around a defensive resilience but the 46-year-old is yet to oversee a clean sheet in any of Chelsea's competitive games.

And the 46-year-old is keen to see his players stay focused in order to eradicate sloppy goals that could have cost the Blues against more prestigious opponents.

"We can improve this aspect, and stay concentrated until the end.

"When you're playing very well, creating a lot of chances to score, I don't like to concede a soft goal from a free kick and a penalty," Conte added.

Next up for Chelsea is a Premier League clash against Burnley on Saturday afternoon with Sean Dyche's side set to be full of confidence after beating Liverpool last time out.
