Andy Carroll's scissor kick strike for West Ham against Crystal Palace has been named the Premier League's goal of the month for January.

The acrobatic effort beat out Olivier Giroud's scorpion kick against the same opponents, with both coming days after Henrikh Mkhitaryan's similar effort which won the December award.

Carroll's strike came out on top after voting from a panel of judges and the public, with the nine-time England international seeing off seven other nominated strikes.

"I think it has to be," Carroll told West Ham TV, when asked if it was his best goal, after the match. "Michail Antonio's put a perfect ball in, I've gone for it and it went in.

"I've [tried a bicycle kick] in training and hit the post recently. I've been practicing. I hit it sweet, I caught it sweet and it went in. I'm well chuffed."

Alongside Giroud's much-lauded strike, other goals to miss out included Lucas Perez against Bournemouth, Harry Kane's hat-trick finish against West Brom and David Luiz's free kick against Liverpool.
