Alexis Sanchez will not be leaving Arsenal for Manchester City on transfer deadline day following the Gunners' failed £92million pursuit of Thomas Lemar.

Arsenal would only sanction the sale of Sanchez - who has less than a year to run on his Gunners contract - if they could bring in a replacement, and quickly turned to Monaco's Lemar.

The Gunners made a dramatic increase on two previous offers tabled this summer - the highest of which was around £50m - with a bid of £75m plus a further £17m in add-ons.

Monaco are believed to have put the proposal to Lemar, but he snubbed Arsenal’s interest primarily due to his preference to continue playing in the Champions League.

With Arsene Wenger failing to sign a replacement for Sanchez, Standard Sport understands that Arsenal are standing firm over Sanchez in the final hours of the transfer window.

With Pep Guardiola's City not improving their cash offer for the Chile forward, Sanchez is set to remain in north London until at least the January transfer window.

Wenger had previously confirmed that he would be willing to keep the likes of Sanchez, Mesut Ozil and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and risk losing the trio for nothing next summer, although the latter left for Liverpool in a £40m deadline day deal.
