Addicks left frustrated by former Palace star Morrison

Clinton Morrison made the most of his cameo back in south London last night, earning the visitors a point just three minutes after coming off the bench.

The former Premier League striker made his name a few miles away at Crystal Palace, but he cut a gloomy figure as a lowly League One substitute convinced he would play no part in last night's proceedings.

No surprise, then, that having headed in off the crossbar with his first touch following his unexpected introduction just after the interval, Morrison celebrated by cupping his ears to the irritated Charlton punters who had booed his arrival, before sprinting to the other end of the pitch to take a bow from the Wednesday fans.

He said: "I didn't think I was coming on when I did. I thought the manager [Gary Megson] said he was going to play one up front and bring James O'Connor on.

"Obviously, you're disappointed if you see that, you're a striker and a striker [substitute Ryan Lowe] is going off. But luckily I came on and managed to get my goal which I've been doing for years."

The 32-year-old front man added: "Last season was clearly not a good one for me but this time I've had a pre-season, I feel good, I feel hungry and I just want to start games because when I do, I score."

Morrison's goal on 55 minutes cancelled out a glorious third-minute opener by Bradley Wright-Phillips on a frustrating night for the Addicks.

Chris Powell's men are still unbeaten but could have gone joint-top of League One with a win last night.

Wright-Phillips opened the scoring by squeezing a low shot inside the left post after being put in by fellow striker Paul Hayes and midfielder Dale Stephens blew the chance to make it 2-0 in the 17th minute from seven yards but smashed the ball over the bar when all it needed was a neat finish.
