Nearly 9 in 10 readers have backed Liverpool legend Steve Nicol's suggestion that there are better managers than Brendan Rodgers available to take the club forward.

Nicol, who made over 340 appearances for the Reds between 1981 and 1994, said: “Here’s the bottom line, if there’s nobody better than him [Rodgers] available then he stays.

“The problem is, Mr Klopp’s available. He should be there.”

Rodgers has become the first Liverpool manager since the 1950s to go without winning silverware in his first three seasons at the club. Defeat to Aston Villa in the FA Cup semi-final at Wembley earlier this month ended Rodgers' hopes of a first trophy of his Anfield tenure.

The Northern Irish boss, however, believes 'there's no one better' to take the reins and told reporters: "Three months ago I was a tactical genius, performing to a good level.”

"We lost a couple of games, some important games, and now you're not so good. But that is football, that's what will happen, people will speculate."

But Liverpool fans are less confident in Rodgers' ability to lead the club into a new era of success with only 15 per cent of 363 voters agreeing that the 42-year-old is the best available option. Check out the results of our Standard Sport poll below.
