Fielden makes his point

12 April 2012

Stuart Fielden sent a powerful message to England coach Tony Smith on Friday with a barnstorming performance in Wigan's 38-20 Super League win over Harlequins.

On a night when Smith's current favourites were romping to a 56-8 victory over France in Toulouse, Fielden showed that his international career may not be over just yet ahead of this year's World Cup.

"I think sometimes you have to run yourself out of a little bit of poor form," Warriors coach Noble said after the game. "I just see some really good signs from Stuart Fielden at the moment."

He added: "That's his third game on the bounce that he's looked like his old self. He's been technically very good and he's looked strong."

Wigan trailed 16-6 before Pat Richards and Joel Tomkins added to Mickey Higham's early touchdown to edge them in front at half-time.

They then ran in further tries in the second half from Gareth Hock, Darrell Goulding (two) and Thomas Leuluai.
