Fabregas: Gunners must stick together

12 April 2012

Arsenal midfielder Cesc Fabregas believes the players remaining at the Emirates Stadium have unfinished business to take care of this season.

The Gunners may have sold Thierry Henry to Barcelona but Fabregas is part of a nucleus of younger players Arsene Wenger has developed, and the 20-year-old Spain midfielder feels they are on the verge of "something special".

"I love this club, I believe a lot in this team and I feel we can do something special this season," said Fabregas. "We have been playing together for the last three or four years. We are very young but we capable of doing big things."

He added: "Since the start of this project we all promised to be together. We have to stick together and make titles for Arsenal."

Sir Alex Ferguson masterminded last season's title win for Manchester United, and he expects Arsenal to be a better team without talisman Henry.

Henry's departure has led to predictions of Wenger's side struggling for inspiration, but Ferguson feels it could have the opposite effect. Arsenal have not finished outside the top four of the Premier League since Wenger was appointed in 1996 and Ferguson believes they will maintain that record.

"They'll be in the top four," said Ferguson on Sky Sports News. "I'm more convinced they will be in the top four without Thierry Henry. I just thought it was time for him to go. Arsene Wenger knew that, and I think they'll do better."

Freddie Ljungberg has also been expected to leave Arsenal and has been linked with Manchester City but his agent, Claes Elefalk, believes it is unlikely the midfielder would play for another Premier League club.

"He has earlier said that due to his respect for the Arsenal fans he can't play for another English club," Elefalk told Swedish news agency TT.

Ljungberg is also subject to interest from Italian side Fiorentina.
