Evans keen to focus on cup tie

Bolton caretaker boss Chris Evans wants his players to focus on the job in hand on Saturday rather than speculating about who the new manager might be.

Evans, aided by head coach Steve Wigley, will take charge of the team for the first time following Gary Megson's sacking and a home FA Cup third round tie against Coca-Cola League Two Lincoln would appear to be an ideal fixture to start off with.

"The FA Cup is held dear to all football people. It is not any different here," Evans said. "We will be professional in our approach and give Lincoln all the respect they deserve. It is our intention to go quietly about our business to make sure there is as little disruption as possible."

He added: "We will be well prepared so we give ourselves every opportunity to make progress in the cup."

Meanwhile, Megson has nothing but praise for the people he has left behind.

In a statement released through the League Managers' Association, he said: "Naturally I am saddened to receive the news from the club and disappointed not to have been given the opportunity to at least see out my contract.

"It is a great honour to manage at Premier League level and I am also proud to have managed a club with great history and tradition.

"I would to thank the players and all the staff for their efforts during my time in charge and I wish the club every success in the future."
