England tribute to Emlyn

14 April 2012

The England team will wear black armbands in memory of Emlyn Hughes in tonight's friendly international against Spain.

Hughes, who was capped 62 times by England and captained his country, died last week after a long battle against a brain tumour.

Keith Weller, the former Leicester and England defender, will also be remembered tonight. Weller, 58, died last week after a long battle with cancer.

A memorial service was being held for Hughes in Sheffield today and Football Association representatives were in attendance.

FA spokesman Adrian Bevington said: "The England players will be wearing black armbands in tribute to a great servant to English football."
