England to play role of guinea pigs

13 April 2012

England will be used as guinea pigs at Dambulla for the second time inside three years when they get their one-day clashes with Sri Lanka start next Tuesday.

The English hierarchy have agreed to a late switch in their itinerary for the first international, which will now be a day-night game.

On the last tour here in early 2001, England christened the stadium during their 3-0 series defeat.

Now, they are to take part in the first floodlit encounter at Sri Lanka's newest international venue, although the suitability of the lights will be tested in a match between Sri Lankan squad players tomorrow.

Meanwhile, no special safety measures are in place and Sri Lanka cricket marketing director Jayantha Kudahetty said: "We see no reason for any at the moment."
