ECB set to unveil duo

12 April 2012

Hugh Morris and Mike Gatting are set to be handed major new roles as part of a managerial restructure by the England and Wales Cricket Board.

The appointments will form part of the governing body's response to the recommendations of the Schofield report, commissioned after England's dismal Ashes tour last winter.

Reports have suggested that Morris, the ECB's deputy chief executive and a member of the seven-man Schofield committee, will take on overall responsibility for all aspects of England team affairs, while former England captain Gatting will be handed a similar position for all levels below the national team.

Creating the new positions would fulfil a recommendation by the Schofield report, which called for "the establishment of a new management structure within the ECB with full accountability and responsibility for the selection and performance of the England cricket team".

The committee, chaired by former European Tour chief Ken Schofield, suggested 18 other steps to improve the state of English cricket after the Ashes whitewash. The report was published in May.

Former Glamorgan captain Morris, who also won two England caps, retired from playing in 1995 to take up a role of technical coaching director with the ECB. Gatting played for England in 79 Tests and also had a spell as a selector.
