Donald eyes full-time job

12 April 2012

Allan Donald hopes his role as England bowling consultant will become permanent after hailing the "massive potential" among the current crop of pace bowlers.

The former South Africa paceman joined England for an initial five-week period but has now extended his role until after the Twenty20 World Cup in September.

Donald said: "I would like it to be a full-time appointment but right now I'm privileged to be given a further opportunity with this England team."

The former Warwickshire and Worcestershire pace ace has already created a favourable impression with a new-look pace attack of Stuart Broad, Liam Plunkett and James Anderson.

Donald added: "Whatever happens after the Twenty20 World Championship will be. My passion is to work with bowlers at this level. To have an opportunity like this is second to none and I'm excited about it. This unit has massive potential.

"I felt England had a good crop of bowlers before I came here and that has been proved right. There's good competition now and it's time for these youngsters to take the roof off English cricket.

"Of course lots of experience like I have helps but I haven't been the guy that has done all the talking.

"The players have asked lots of questions and I have spent a lot of time with them answering, talking about my battles with Mike Atherton, things like that.

"It is nice to be asked those sort of questions by a group of bowlers who are keen to learn."
