Dobson feels refreshed

13 April 2012

Helen Dobson came back to form after a long lay-off with a five-under-par 67 in the opening round of the LPGA Subaru Memorial of Naples in Florida.

The British girl, who suffered from an elbow injury last year and spent four months out of action, had six birdies in the first 10 holes and then holed a putt from just off the green for an eagle at the long 11th to finish three shots behind Mi Hyun Kim.

Kim, the 1999 Rookie of the Year, had eight birdies in a flawless round in her bid to make it back-to-back wins for South Korea. Se Ri Pak, missing due to flu, won the Your Life Vitamins Classic in Orlando on Sunday.

Dobson shot a career-best 64 in the third round of this event last year and said today: "I seem to like it here.

"I enjoyed my long break and I really felt I needed it. The injury is now no problem and it has also helped refresh my attitude.

"I don't really like the lifestyle on tour but I love the competition. It's a great job but it's just a pity that you can't go home every night."

Laura Davies, who was in contention in Orlando before slumping to a final-day 80, returned to better form with a three-under 69.

Scotland's Catriona Matthew, who missed the cut last week, was even better placed on 68.
