Diouf has Gunners in his sights

12 April 2012

El-Hadji Diouf has taunted Arsenal ahead of Saturday's trip to Bolton, claiming the Gunners are "scared" to play at the Reebok Stadium.

Arsene Wenger's men have not beaten Bolton on enemy territory in the Premiership since 2002 and were defeated in both league and FA Cup combat at the Reebok last season.

"Arsenal are scared to play here," said the Senegal striker. "My personal manager knows Arsene Wenger very well and when they came up to Bolton last season he said then he didn't like coming here. I have also spoken to Thierry Henry and he said exactly the same thing."

He added: "They know Bolton is a hard team to play against. We battle for everything and if we keep a clean sheet, we always win.

"When they complain about us, we just find it more amusing. It is far better to win ugly than lose playing well."

Although some might claim Diouf is seeking unnecessary confrontation, he is only backing up the comments of manager Sam Allardyce, who said it was "wonderful" to hear Wenger moaning because it usually meant his team had been successful.

Besides, abuse is like water off a duck's back to Diouf, who is booed mercilessly by opposition supporters throughout the land for a combination of his reputation for diving and some unsavoury off-field incidents.

"Fans never boo a bad player," he observed.

"I like it when they boo me. It gives me power and spurs me on to do my best. The more they boo me, the better it is."

With strike partner Nicolas Anelka yet to score in the Premiership this term, Diouf has been carrying the majority of Bolton's attacking threat. The 25-year-old currently tops the Trotters' scoring charts with four.
