Davis races into frame

13 April 2012

Brian Davus put himself into Ryder Cup contention with a dramatic victory at the ANZ Championship.

The 29-year-old charged through the field from 15th place to win the modified Stableford tournament by one point from defending champion Paul Casey.

Davis rated the victory more special than his maiden tour win at the Peugeot Open de Espana in 2000.

'The first win will always be special but this win more so,' he said. 'I had two months off at the end of last year. When I came back I really struggled.

'It has been playing on my mind. I was getting really upset with myself because I didn't think I had prepared properly.

'This win was unbelievable. I am over the moon.'

Davis, who won a cheque for almost £138,000, is up to the fourth place on the Ryder Cup points list. He will withdraw from next week's Malaysian Open to prepare for the Accenture Matchplay.
