Derby boss Billy Davies has confirmed midfield starlet Giles Barnes will miss the play-offs with a knee injury.

The 18-year-old was carried off with suspected ligament damage at the start of the second-half of Sunday's 2-0 defeat to Crystal Palace, which ended the Rams' automatic promotion hopes.

Scans have shown Barnes only sustained tissue damage, but Davies admits he will not feature again until next season.

"Giles has damaged the tissue that holds the kneecap in place," he said.

"There is no ligament damage and no operation is needed so it will be a case of treatment and rehabilitation work. He should be fit for pre-season training."
