Former England and Surrey bowler and cricket commentator Robin Jackman has died at the age of 75.
Jackman featured in four Test matches for England between 1981-82 - making his Test bow at the age of 35 - and also played a total of 15 one-day internationals after making his ODI debut against India in 1974.
At club level, he made 599 first-class and List A appearances for Surrey across a 16-year spell beginning in 1966, taking 1,605 wickets.
Jackman was part of the Surrey side that won the County Championship in 1971, while he later represented and coached Western Province in Cape Town and Rhodesia.
After his playing days came to an end, the South Africa-based Jackman enjoyed a successful commentary career.
He was diagnosed with cancer in 2012.
The announcement of Jackman’s death comes just hours after that of former Surrey team-mate and England legend John Edrich, who died at his home in Scotland at the age of 83.
“We are saddened to learn about the death of legendary commentator and former England bowler Robin Jackman, who has passed away aged 75,” the ICC said in a statement.
“The thoughts of the cricketing world go out to his family and friends during this difficult time.”
Surrey shared the following condolences while also retweeting a past video interview with Jackman in which he recounted his lengthy career at the club: “Everyone at Surrey County Cricket Club is saddened to learn of the death of our former bowler Robin Jackman.
“He took 1605 wickets in 599 first-class & List A appearances for our Club.”
