A strict dress code prevented Lewis Hamilton from watching the Wimbledon final last week, and now Jonathan Agnew has also gotten into trouble over his attire.

The BBC's cricket correspondent was given a warning by MCC chief executive Derek Brewer after he spotted Agnew in the Long Room at Lord's during the opening day of the second Ashes Test without a tie.

The members' area at Lord's has a strict dress code policy and, after being spotted not wearing a tie on Thursday, the 55-year-old was sent a letter from Brewer which he subsequently tweeted to his 311,000 followers.

Next to a photo of the letter, Agnew wrote: "Oops! A letter arrives from MCC chief exec...."

In the light-hearted note, Brewer mentioned how Agnew's colleague, Graeme Swann, had adhered to the dress code before then ensuring such a lapse in formalities would not occur again by enclosing the item of clothing with his letter.

Swann also took to social media to comment on the incident after he tweeted: "Brilliant from Derek Brewer of the MCC.

And to cap off Agnew's day, his wife Emma tweeted her husband to let him know he had forgotten to take the 'Do not disturb' sign off from their bedroom door, which had resulted in the couple's room not being cleaned.
