England secured a remarkable come-from-behind victory in the women’s T20 international here against Australia to finish the series all square.

Australia had already retained the Ashes but England did salvage their pride on. Opener Danielle Wyatt collected a century from 56 balls to haul down the highest successful run chase in the history of women’s T20, knocking off Australia’s 178 for two with an over to spare.

This all came after Australian opener Beth Mooney hammered England, smacking an unbeaten 117 from 70 balls. That looked likely to ensure England’s tour would end on a sour note, especially after they lost three wickets in the first five overs.

But Wyatt had other ideas, joined by Heather Knight for a 139-run partnership in just 75 balls for the fourth wicket, taking England to within 10 runs of the win.

Wyatt said: “I tried too hard in the first six overs. But I backed myself and swung hard and it paid off.”
