England star Ben Stokes climbs ICC rankings after memorable Ashes exploits at Headingley

Standard Sport27 August 2019

Ben Stokes' heroic Ashes display at Headingley helped him take a huge leap forward in the ICC rankings.

The England star is now second behind West Indies’ Jason Holder in the table for all-rounders, with a career-high 411 points.

Stokes also climbed to 13th in the rankings for batsmen, with 693 points - also a career-best rating.

The Durham all-rounder - also the hero of England's stunning World Cup Final victory over New Zealand in July - produced one of the greatest Test innings of all time on Sunday, with his stunning 135 not out helping keep the current five-match Ashes series alive at 1-1.

Meanwhile, Stokes’ team-mate Jofra Archer is already 40th in the bowlers’ table, despite having played only two Tests.
