Manchester City manager Mark Hughes has told Brazil superstar Ronaldinho that he can offer him a better home than Chelsea.

On the day City unveiled striker Jo from CSKA Moscow, Hughes admitted he is fully behind plans to bring in Ronaldinho. The overall fee paid for Jo has not been disclosed, but is believed to be £18million.

City representatives have been in talks with Ronaldinho and it is understood they have agreed a fee of about £13m with Barcelona.

Chelsea are also interested and the player has hinted he would prefer a move to Stamford Bridge.

But Hughes said: ‘Maybe what we are trying to do here would be more attractive to him than an established Barclays Premier League club.

‘He could be the standard bearer for us, the one player who could help drag this club where we want to go.’

City executive chairman Garry Cook suggested last night that the club’s chances of landing Ronaldinho are ‘50-50’.

Jo will today accompany his teammates to south Germany for a training camp and Hughes also revealed last night that club captain Richard Dunne has agreed a new contract in principle. The deal will pay the defender £50,000 a week.
