Chelsea's Eidur U-turn

13 April 2012

Eidur Gudjohnsen is expected to sign a new contract at Chelsea later today.

The Icelandic striker has agreed a one-year extension on improved terms, giving him a further three years at Stamford Bridge.

Gudjohnsen's signature will end a saga that descended into a farce when he was offered a new deal on Monday, only for the offer to be withdrawn yesterday.

But he will sign this afternoon after a meeting between his agent Peter Harrison and Chelsea chief executive Trevor Birch.

Harrison said: "These are exciting times for Chelsea and Eidur wants to be part of them. He loves playing for Chelsea and is very settled in London."

Meanwhile, Gianfranco Zola is considering a move into management when he finishes playing. The Italian striker left Chelsea for Cagliari and told Chelsea TV: "Management is something I would consider in the future."
