Chambers gets Olympic qualifier

12 April 2012

Dwain Chambers flew to the Olympic Games 100 metres 'A' qualifying standard in his heat at the EnBW Weltklasse in Biberach meeting with a time of 10.14 seconds.

In perfect conditions and a legal following wind of 0.07metres/second, Chambers charged out of his blocks at the southern Germany venue, easily beating the required time to qualify him for Beijing of 10.21secs.

The performance now opens the door for the sprinter to challenge a British Olympic Association bylaw which currently prevents former drug cheats ever again representing Team GB.

For the moment Chambers is leaving the decision when to challenge the BOA ruling in the High Court to his legal team, but given his result, it could happen sooner rather than later.

Chambers, whose previous best this season of 10.24 was into a strong headwind at Crystal Palace a fortnight ago, is scheduled to compete later on Saturday in his final where it is highly likely he will run even quicker.
