Carlisle heads back north to team up with Leeds

14 April 2012

Clarke Carlisle will today undergo a medical ahead of a free transfer move from Queens Park Rangers to Leeds.

The former Blackpool defender's contract expired at the end of the season and he had indicated he wanted to return north. Last September, Carlisle was admitted to a clinic for the treatment of alcohol problems but he returned to play a key part in QPR's successful promotion campaign.

A former England Under-21 international, he joined Rangers in May 2000 and made 107 appearances, scoring six times.

Carlisle was one of 12 QPR players whose contracts expired this summer. The club have already agreed a new three-year deal with midfielder Marc Bircham.
