Buttler and Briggs in ODI team

12 April 2012

Jos Buttler and Danny Briggs are hoping to play their part as England attempt to complete a 4-0 whitewash against Pakistan at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium.

Middle-order batsman Buttler, 21, and slow left-armer Briggs, one year younger, are making their one-day international debuts, replacing Ravi Bopara and Graeme Swann.

Bopara is struggling with the back spasm which first discomforted him in Abu Dhabi, and Swann has a niggle in his right calf.

Jade Dernbach and Tim Bresnan have also been added to the team, coming in for rested regulars James Anderson and Stuart Broad.

For Pakistan, Younus Khan has failed to recover from a cold which has gone on to affect several members of the team - including seamers Umar Gul and Aizaz Cheema, both unfit to play.

In addition, opener Imran Farhat has succumbed to a groin injury.

Shoaib Malik will deputise for him; Junaid Khan replaces Gul, and Abdur Rehman has been included as an extra spinner instead of the pace of Cheema.

Pakistan are batting first after winning the toss.
