Burrow vows to dig in

12 April 2012

Rob Burrow is determined to grab his chance and establish himself as Great Britain's first-choice number seven in next week's Frontline Test against France.

The Leeds star, one of the form scrum-halves in the engage Super League, is poised to win only his second cap on his home ground at Headingley Carnegie a week on Friday after finding himself behind the likes of Sean Long and Paul Deacon under former boss Brian Noble.

"I have been in a couple of squads, so I know what it's all about but I've only played one game," said Burrow. "I still want to establish myself and get a game and take it with both hands."

He added: "I have improved a lot this year. I have added little bits to my game which have improved me as a player, but it's only half done and I want to finish the season strong."

Burrow was left on the sidelines during the Tri-Nations Series in Australia and New Zealand last year.

Long began the tournament as Britain's first choice, but Burrow was overlooked in favour of Hull's Richard Horne after the Saints star returned home for personal reasons.

Yet, despite the frustration of being left out and the disappointment of Britain's failure to reach the final, Burrow still feels he gained a lot from the tour.

"Obviously, I would liked to have played," Burrow said. "I went there to play, but I got a lot of experience in being away with the touring party.

"I know what it's all about. I want to set new goals this year, but I took a lot from last year."
