Broad tips Pattinson to fight back

Stuart Broad: 'Rested' for the third Test
Warwick Jordan13 April 2012

Stuart Broad is confident his Nottinghamshire and England team-mate Darren Pattinson will fight back from losing his Test place after one match.

Pattinson's unexpected debut against South Africa at Headingley was greeted with incredulity. It was quickly followed by his rapid banishment back to the county ranks and he went wicketless yesterday on his return for Championship leaders Notts at Trent Bridge.

But Broad, who claimed three Durham victims in 13.2 overs despite being dropped by England "because he looked tired" has no doubts Pattinson will soon recover.

He said: "Darren's always upbeat. He's a lovely bloke and he got dealt with harshly by the press, because he bowled well for a Test debut on a very flat wicket."

But Broad claimed he never asked to be rested by England. "I don't know where that came from, not from me," said the 22-year-old. "I look forward to bowling every game."
