Bodies found in crashed helicopter

12 April 2012

Bodies have been discovered in a helicopter which crashed with an honorary vice-president of Chelsea onboard.

The helicopter was found in Wansford, Cambridgeshire on Wednesday, prompting fears for the four people onboard, including wealthy businessman Phillip Carter, a Blues supporter returning from Liverpool after Tuesday night's Champions League semi-final second leg match.

Detective Superintendent John Raine of Cambridgeshire Police confirmed bodies were in the wreckage.

The aircraft disappeared off radar screens just after midnight after taking off from Liverpool's John Lennon Airport.

A search helicopter spotted the wreckage at around 10.15am in woodland near Wansford, near Peterborough.

Carter is listed as one of eight vice-presidents of Chelsea, but the position does not make him an official of the club and does not entitle him to a seat on the board of directors.

Carter and Carter, which specialises in vocational training, employs more than 500 people and is based in Nottingham.

Shares in Carter and Carter were suspended at 9.30am.
