Becks' tribute to hero Moore

On the record: David Beckham has equalled Bobby Moore's 108 caps

David Beckham joined Bobby Moore on a record 108 caps last night but insisted he could not be compared to the World Cup-winning England captain.

The midfielder equalled Moore's record for an outfield England player as his side lost 2-0 against Spain in Seville, but said: "No one can be compared to Bobby because he's such a legend. He's a player I will always look up to as our World Cup winner, our World Cup-winning captain."

However, the 33-year-old, on loan at
AC Milan from LA Galaxy, was thrilled at equalling the record and said: "I think it's something any young kid would dream of.

"At one time I didn't think I was going to make it to 95 or 96 caps, to be honest. I missed 11 games in that period and it was disappointing. But I'm glad to be back now and I'm enjoying it."

Beckham, who can now set his sights on goalkeeper Peter Shilton's record of 125 appearances, said his loan move to AC Milan has revitalised his career.

He is desperate to make the three-month loan from Galaxy permanent but Major League Soccer Commissioner Don Garber has set a deadline of tomorrow for the deal to be done.

Beckham said: "Fitness-wise, AC Milan has done me the world of good. I'm a lot fitter than I was a few months back and even in the month and a half I've been there my fitness has gone up 100 per cent. And I'm enjoying my club football which is great.

"I've nothing against Galaxy, I've had two great years there and there are some great players and great people there.

"Do I have to stay at Milan to be in the England squad? Who knows? I've been in the majority of squads while I've been with the Galaxy.

"But if I want to carry on playing at this level, which I do, I want to stay in Milan. It depends now on negotiations between Galaxy and Milan."
