Asian Heights set to return at Newbury

Asian Heights, whose Derby hopes last year were ended by an eleventhhour injury, makes his long-awaited return to action at Newbury this Saturday.

The Geoff Wragg-trained colt advertised his claim on Epsom's classic with an impressive Predominate Stakes victory over Godolphin's Wareed last May. Backed to 6-1 fourth favourite for the Derby, he split a pastern during his final work-out just eight days beforehand.

Sidelined since, he now carries two screws in his leg. But his Newmarket handler is confident the setback has not affected his ability.

"He seems fine - he hasn't shown me any problems since his operation and that was simple enough," said Wragg. "He returned to work at the same time as everything else this year, after having the remainder of last season off."

Stablemate and half-brother St Expedit is likely to line up in the same 12-furlong Group Three event, the Dubai Irish Village John Porter Stakes.

Jockey Darryll Holland usually partners both, but has been spared the burden of decision-making by his guv'nor.

"They're both going to run and are as forward as each other," said Wragg. "Darryll can ride whichever one he wants, but I've put him on Asian Heights. He might not argue."
