Arsenal transfer targets include Thomas Partey, Willian, Gabriel Magalhaes… and keeping hold of Aubameyang

Mikel Arteta faces a decisive summer transfer window as he looks to step up his rebuild at Arsenal.

First and foremost, the club needed to resolve the future of captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. The forward has just one more season on his contract and Standard Sport understands the striker has verbally agreed to sign an extension expected to run until 2023 .

A defensive midfielder is high on the club’s shopping list. Atletico Madrid’s Thomas Partey is a prime target, but if his €50million (£45m) release clause is too high Arsenal may turn to Porto’s Danilo Pereira.

Arsenal’s finances have been hit hard by the outbreak of coronavirus and they are not expected to have a big transfer budget. As a result they will look for value, with Chelsea forward Willian expected to arrive on a free and Rennes centre-back Malang Sarr another Bosman option.

Lille centre-back Gabriel Magalhaes is a more expensive, but more impressive, option.

Barcelona playmaker Philippe Coutinho could be an option on loan, but his wages and loan fee may be a stumbling block.

Arsenal’s budget could be boosted by sales and Henrikh Mkhitaryan is likely to join Roma.

Midfielder Matteo Guendouzi has not featured since last month’s loss at Brighton and is expected to leave.

Mesut Ozil has not played since returning last month and could also go, but his £350,000-a-week wages makes finding a buyer hard.
