When she famously can-canned her way across the stage, Angela Rippon revealed a flawless pair of legs.

Nearly thirty years on, it is not just the 61-year-old's legs that are in great shape - her face is every bit as sprightly.

The former newsreader revealed her remarkably fresh-faced complexion at the 25th birthday celebration of London's Le Caprice restaurant.

Wearing a tailored satin black jacket and white vest top, the veteran presenter looked tanned and incredibly healthy - prompting speculation that she may have had a little cosmetic help.

Miss Rippon, who performed her memorable high-kick routine on the 1978 Morecambe and Wise Christmas special, insists however, that her face is all her own.

She told the Mail: 'I wouldn't want any plastic surgery because I don't feel I need it. Why would I?'

'Yes I have laughter lines but I have earned every one, and am proud of each and every line.'

'Surgery would get rid of those and I don't want that. My face shows that I've had fun and a life of laughter - and I love that.'

'I have nothing to be ashamed of and nothing to hide.'

'But if other people, or actresses, want to get work done then that is absolutely fine and totally up to them. Who am I to meddle in someone else's affairs?'

The presenter, who turns 62 next week, leads an extremely active lifestyle - thought to be behind her glamorous, evergreen appearance.

As well as swimming and power walking, she is a tennis and yoga enthusiast, and has added 40 ballet pliés to her morning exercises to increase her lung capacity.

She also has regular bouts of acupuncture which helps keep lines at bay.

While Miss Rippon has not gone under the surgeon's knife out of vanity, she has had four cosmetic operations after smashing her nose as a child.

Leading cosmetic surgeon Dr Lucy Glancey believes that a naturally strong bone structure - and possibly a hint of Botox - have kept her looking young.

'For a woman of her advanced years, Angela looks amazing,' she said.

'Her forehead is very smooth and her skin generally has a very good texture.'

'Most women of her age have hollowed cheeks where the cheeks' natural fat pads have slipped. But because Angela is ageing so well, and has great, high cheekbones, this has not happened to her.'

'Similarly, it is important that she has maintained a healthy, sensible weight - as opposed to yo-yo dieting - which means her face has remained youthfully plump.'

'Despite the fact she is smiling, she has hardly any lines around the eye area which would suggest that she has had some Botox implants to plump, and smooth out, her crows feet.'

'But otherwise, regular chemical peels or acupuncture, as well as a healthy balanced diet and a high water intake, would definitely keep her looking great.'
