Taking the plunge for cancer campaign
That fascinating area between the chin and the breast is the subject of a photographic exhibition next month to raise awareness of cancer.
Striking portraits of famous women?s necklines feature subjects from film, music, art and fashion such as Jodie Kidd, Helena Christiansen, Twiggy, Honor Blackman, Flora Montgomery, Sophie Ellis-Bextor and Sam Taylor-Wood.
In the same way the cut of a garment around the neck can subtly point to what lies below, the exhibition is designed to draw attention to the benefits of breast awareness, as well as raise funds for breast cancer charity the Haven Trust.
Photographer Mary McCartney Donald was invited to take pictures of female celebrities who could be seen as women of their time. Wendy Smith, director of the Haven Trust, said: ?The concept of the campaign really appealed to us as the photography is focused on the necklines of women.
?We are there to support the one in nine women and their families who will suffer from breast cancer in the UK. Raising awareness about early detection is vital and may help save lives.?
Commissioned by shirtmakers Thomas Pink, the portraits go on show at the Hempel Hotel in Bayswater and Pink Women shops in Edinburgh and Birmingham throughout next month, which is also Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
Prints from the exhibition, which will also feature on a breast cancer awareness leaflet, are to be sold in a charity sale hosted by McCartney Donald. They will be signed by her and the celebrity sitters. All proceeds will go to the Haven Trust.
