When Jill Halfpenny met Natasha Kaplinsky in the battle of the dancing queens, there was only ever going to be one winner.

Jill is the former EastEnders star who was the runaway winner of the second series of the BBC's Strictly Come Dancing.

Natasha is the presenter who, amid a bit of a brouhaha about her love life, won the first series.

After clinching the title with a jive to Rockin' Around The Christmas Tree, Halfpenny, 29, said: "I want to say thank you to everybody who voted for us, thanks. It really is amazing - let's party!" Kaplinsky, in contrast, could scarcely conceal her disappointment after her dance to Christina Aguilera's version of Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas failed to get her into the top two.

Bruce Forsyth, the host of Strictly Come Dancing Champion of Champions, said the show had raised £1 million for Children In Need. The other contestants were opera singer Lesley Garrett, rugby star Martin Offiah and singer turned presenter Aled Jones.
