A leading electronic music producer is opening a free school — and hundreds of London teenagers have already rushed to put their names down.

Will Kennard, one half of Chase & Status, announced that his bid to create a school in Tower Hamlets had been approved by the government. The East London Arts and Music school gave prospective students taster sessions last week, with around 200 signing up to attend.

The 33-year-old star said: “We want to provide world-class education in music and the music industry to young people who might not usually get those opportunities.”

The school will be for students aged 16-19, with courses including a level three BTEC in music technology and A-level maths and English.

Kennard will not teach full time at the school, but will sit on the board of governors.
