Jude and Sienna locked in talks

Jude Law was today desperately trying to salvage his relationship with Sienna Miller after publicly apologising for having had an affair with his children's nanny.

He joined the 23-year-old actress at a secret countryside location where she has been staying with friends.

One of Miller's friends said: "She's in talks with Jude. She's taken the day away to sort things out."

Miller broke down on stage last night after performing as Celia in Shakespeare's comedy As You Like It. Although she delivered a faultless performance, barely 24 hours after discovering her fiancÈ's infidelity, the pressure proved too much at curtain-call.

As the Wyndham's Theatre audience gave the star a standing ovation, Miller took her final bow and burst into tears. The actress is said to be "devastated" by Law's affair with 26-year-old nanny Daisy Wright and is understood to have called off their seven-month engagement. She was not wearing her diamond engagement ring last night.

Miller's friend said the actress was still planning to be on stage tonight.

Law, 32, has admitted seducing Miss Wright in New Orleans, three months after he proposed to Miller. In a statement the Alfie star said he was "deeply ashamed".

Miller's mother last night said her daughter was "too angry for tears" had quit the couple's Maida Vale home.

Former model Josephine said: "I can't comment on whether they will stay together. It is their affair. They have to work it out."
