The truth behind why Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck are frequently photographed rowing in public has been revealed.

The latest snaps where they appeared to be caught in a heated exchange, with Affleck wildly gesticulating his hands, came at the Golden Globes in Los Angeles on Sunday night.

Prior to the event, J-Lo, 54, insisted that she and the actor and director, 51, are "happy" when outright asked during a red carpet interview before the glam awards show by E! Online.

US news outlet Variety further addressed the elephant in the room by not-so-subtlety asking the Jenny From The Block singer, who has been married four times, how she knew that this would be her last trip down the aisle.

"Because when they say, 'You know', you know," she shot back.

Now, an insider has claimed that the real bone of contention for the two is attention from the paparazzi.

Affleck and Lopez previously dated in the early noughties, but have openly said that media attention around their relationship led to them going their separate ways.

Lopez, who finally tied the knot with Affleck in 2022, even recently claimed that their run-ins with the press had left them with PTSD to this day.

"Ben and Jen are doing very well...a lot of the times we see Ben upset, it's because he just hates the paps always following him and Jen," the source told MailOnline.

Describing being tailed by photographers as the part of his day that he "dreads", the source continued: "Ben doesn't like red-carpet photos or being snapped by photographers when they are out doing regular life.

He knows Jen loves it, so it does put them at odds at times, but they eventually fall back to a place with each other to be happy."

They concluded that while it is an issue that the couple "butt heads" over, they insisted that "it isn't in any way ruining their relationship," and again decreed that "they are really in a good place".
